Goodbye PICC - DOL 10

So, our baby girl has met another mini-milestone.  Today at about 5PM the nurse took out her PICC.  This was the IV that was giving her nutrition in addition to the breast milk.  You may remember our post from the day that they put the PICC in and how stressful it was for us (PICC put in on DOL 5).  The doctor and NNP chose to take the PICC out because she is tolerating her feedings well and has been going up in volume on the breast milk.  She is up to 18ml per feeding and also they have begun to fortify (adding protein & extra calories) the milk.  So far she has been doing okay with the increase in volume and the adding of the protein and calories.

Another special part of today is that it is Brandon's birthday.  His first birthday as a Daddy!  As a special gift the nursing staff today put a birthday flag in Ainsley's bed that said "Happy Birthday Dad!".  It was created for the occasion by our NICU nurse from afar Joylyn and aided by our fantastic NICU nurses.  Thanks for your thoughtfulness amazing NICU staff!

I'm so proud of you two! It sounds like you're taking the very best care of her as anyone can. Keep up the good work.

I don't know nuttin' about birthin' babies, but 15" seems long for how early she came, is that right?

Love you guys!

Happy birthday, dad!

Glad to hear the picc line is gone...one less thing to stress about.

Oh, and so both of you know what fun you have in store, we are in the OHSU waiting area and the frickin Wiggles Christmas video is playing. Oh this is bad (and sadly, Madelyn is dancing to it...noooooooooooo)

Thanks all. Yes we think 15.5" is a bit tall too and it is according to alot of the books about preemies.

NO WIGGLES...boo!
I am going to buy you guys the season of boobah for Madelyns second birthday :-P. I think it is more of a show for trippers than children but whatever, it is on OPB after all so it must be good.

I am so glad Denessa gave me your site so I can watch your baby progress. She is such a beautiful baby girl! Try to rest as much as you can because before you know it your little bundle of joy will be home keeping you up all night. LOL!
