Barnyard Beat

DOL 51
Ainsley Marie
17.75" long on Sunday 8/15
5lbs 14oz

So earlier in the nicu Heather and I had decided that we were surrounded by farm animals.  We had sheep, goats, and cats, well about a week ago or so we realized that we had our own little horse and sometimes pig.  Ainsley had begun to fit right in here at NICU farms.  She has quite the little whinny on her and even snorts a bit when she is breast feeding.

It has been a fun week or so as Ainsely has become more vocal.  Her cry is getting louder, her cooing is so sweet (we call it her happy sound), she coos quite a bit after a feeding when you are holding her.  It is fun getting to hear her more.  We are excited to see more and more activity, she is looking around the room, and is active for longer periods of time.

We are getting closer and closer to coming home.   Ainsley is working really hard on breast feeding and now has also been working on bottle feeding a little too.  She will need to take all of her feedings from a combination of both, no longer needing supplemented by gavage in order to go home.

The next week or so will be a tough one on mom as she continues breast feeding 'round the clock along with pumping.  The combination of both at every feeding is a time consuming process leaving an hr and a half or so between each feeding.  As we approach 8 weeks of living here at the hospital, Heather's drive and dedication continues to amaze me, she is going to do everything in her power to give our girl every opportunity to thrive.
